Reservoir Water Quality
EPA has been routinely monitoring the water quality of 20 water reservoirs in Taiwan since 1993. The monitoring results is expressed by TP, Chl-a, and SD as the Carlson trophic state index (CTSI), which indices the Eutrophic level of water. The monitoring work has executed at Taiwan and outlying island of Taiwan (including Penghu, Kinmen, and Lienchiang County) since 2002. There are currently 59 water reservoirs, and 116 sampling points. Now the monitoring work of water reservoirs is executed quarterly.

River Water Quality
Former Taiwan Provincial Government Water Pollution Prevention Institute had been monitoring river water quality for the long-term water quality data establishment, since 1976. Now the monitor work has been shifted to The Department of Environmental Monitoring & Information Management (EMIM) under the EPA since 2002, and there are 318 monitor sites currently. Now, the water quality monitoring frequency is once every month.

Ground Water Quality
EPA stars monitoring Taiwan groundwater since 2002, and there are 431 groundwater monitoring wells currently, the ground water monitoring has been executed quarterly.

Marine Water Quality
The marine water quality monitoring has been executed since 2002, the coastal area are divided into 19 regions, and there are 104 monitoring sites. The ground water monitoring is executed quarterly.

Beach Water Quality
To make the beach water quality public, for the water activity advices, EPA had monitoring the water quality during summer, Jun to September, since 1999. The monitoring sites were 10 beaches of Taiwan, during 2002 to 2008, and increase to 13 sites (Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu are added) at 2008. After the meeting with Tourism Bureau, Scenic Area Administration, and Environmental Protection Bureaus of each city at February 11th 2000, EPA choose some of the most popular beaches and cancel the beaches were do not operate, than the monitoring sites are increased to 23 sites. The monitoring duration is increased to 3 months (Jun to August), and the monitoring frequency is once every week at July and August, and one time at the end of Jun, so there are totally 10 times every year. The data are divided into three grades—“Good”, “Normal”, “Water activities are not recommended”. The principles of beach quality sampling: at the right, middle, and left of the inward of safety line, collect the water at 1 meter depth, and take pictures of the sampling spot, for recording the beach environment and water color, and make it public. The beach quality monitoring principle: at the right, middle, and left of the inward of safety line, at the entrance of the Beach Park, and calculate the average of these three values.

River Level Monitoring Station
River Level represents the length that water level higher than elevation. In most cases the elevation means the river bed when there are no river runoff, while sometimes means the sea level. The most easy river level measurement is by water gauge. The water gauge are fixed on the pier, pile foundation, dock, bridge, or any other buildings, and part it soaked in water.If there are no suitable buildings for the water gauge installation, we can use the sectional or a customized water gauge. The measuring tape and level meter are usually used for the water level measuring. The former is conventional and effective observation equipment, and the latter is made by a buoy, and based on the physical principle of pressure and acoustic wave, they can measure and record the water level of river, lake, and groundwater automatically, and draw the change curve. It’s easy to decide the installation sites, if the gauge is only used for the flood warning and navigation purpose. However, if the gauge is for the runoff record, the installation sites need to be planned carefully.

Groundwater Level Monitoring Well
The area of each groundwater monitoring wells is mainly divided by the ground water area, and there are 11 areas currently. The “Planning of groundwater monitoring wells at Taiwan” project, finished by Former Taiwan Provincial Government Water Resource Bureau, had planned ground water monitoring wells from 1988 to 1991. This project builds 990 ground water observation wells and 517 hydrogeology stations. The main jobs of this plan are: hydrogeology research, the establishment and management of groundwater monitoring web, groundwater resource management and information system planning, and the data management of major area groundwater resource.

Marine Weather
Taiwan located in subtropical area, and there are twenty millions of people live on it—a 36,000-square-kilometers island. There are a shortage of land resources, in such high population and living quality. Therefore, the marine resources are indispensible. The range of Oceanography includes the marine physics, marine chemistry, marine geology, and marine biology. And it can be divided into shipping, fishery, ocean engineering, marine environment protection, and the use of marine resources...ect. The Marine Forecast Section of Central Weather Bureau in charge of marine meteorology which includes wave, tide, and other air-sea interaction, for example, storm surge, sea surface temperature, and wind speed, wind direction, pressure... ect. In addition to the weather stations, the Central Weather Bureau has set other observation stations: weather buoy, costal wave station, and costal tide station at outlying island.
